Warkah dari Syam
as u can see, this was composed last week:

Only 6 days have passed, yet i've learnt alot of things! so far, hamdan lillah,i've truly enjoyed my stay in Syria. there are so many reasons for falling in love with Syam. wanna know why? meh lah sini datang ke Syria ;)

let me share with u a few experiences of places i've visited so far:

-Ma'radh (Bookfair). this only takes place in August every year. my frens n me were so lucky to have arrived in Damascus just the day before the bookfair ends. personally, i lovelovelove it! banyaaaaaaaaak nah buku. almost never-ending. shops from Lubnan, Egypt, Iran, Oman, and a few other Middle East countries also took part. the best thing: the books were cheap! boleh tawar-menawar lagi. as for me, i even got 2 books balaash (FREE!) at 2 different shops. baik nah kan owners tu? i was asking the price of the book cost, n they simply gave it to me. org tak mintak pun. betol! (=P) on top of that,i bought a few books n a Qur'an as well. (tu pun kene paksa diri to resist temptations to buy a few more books. rambangnye mataaa~ Hida n Juwai dah macam my bodyguards, "helped" me to move away from the bookshops, pasal time dah up. hee)

-Maqam Nabi ALLAH Yahya 'alaihis salaam

-Tempat Sayyidina Abi Hurairah selalu bermukim semasa hayatnya

-Hamra' : to reach this place, my seniors, my frens n me (around 20 of us, including some sisters from Russia and Turkey) had to squeeze into the back of a lorry (here, that's one of the mode of transportation. gerek sgt!! altho a bit menyeramkan coz mcm dah over-loaded. huu~ wanna know why we came to Hamra' (around 30 mins journey from our place) in the first place?

to buy milkshakes! haa! pelik tapi benar. the seniors were saying how sodap the milkshakes are, n i finally got to taste it then. a "small" glass (small according to the Arabs, padahal gelas tu siket punyer tinggi!) costs ard 75 lira (less than S$3). mine was fraise (strawberry), with mix of bananas, strawberries, and pineapple bits...and NUTELLA! very unique n filling, but it still cannot beat the refreshing Laimun Jameed (frozen Lemon) -my top favourite food here so far- that costs as little as 5 lira for a small cup, n 45 lira for a super big cup. SUKER SGT!!!! si Hida sibuk dah plan nak bukak business jual laimun jamuud pat Singapore bila balik nanti -_-" ni kat bawah gambar some of the budak2 yg tgh makan+minum milkshakes tu. hee~

-after filling up our stomachs with milkshakes, "popcorn Arab" (popcorn dorang setakat jagung tu dorang pop kan, pastu letak garam. setakat~) n jagung rebus arab yang nampak je macam sedap tapi..... , we all rode a van (18 of us, plus 2 drivers = 20 ppl sumbat-ed into the van!), all the way UP to Jabal Qasiyuun. on top of this Mountain, we were all presented with the breathtaking night scenery of the whole of Damascus , beautifully lit up. maasyaAllah, indah sangat pemandangan kat situ, nampak the Jami's (masjid2) yang berselerakan di sekitar Damsyik, berangin pulak tu! tempat sesuai nak tangkap lentok, nak feeling2, nak mengagumi keindahan ciptaan Allah! ^-^ veghee noice~ nak pegi lagi!!

there are soooo many masjids! (here, they call them "Jami' instead), each within just around 100 metres from one another, such that when it's time for prayer, the azan from the different jami's overlap one another. coOL~ tak akan miss punyer~

-Suuq Jum'ah (the market very near the place i stay -ni everyday gerenti pass by this market. the fruits, like peaches, cherries, figs, grapes, are very cheap! e.g. i once bought half kilo of cherries for only 25 lira, which is less than S$1! uwau~

-Suuuq Hamidi -a further n much bigger market than the one near my place. here, u can find loads of beauuutiful abayas n cloths. pilihan yang bagus untuk sisters yang bakal mendirikan rumahtangga (hehe).

ok i think that's enough for now. actually there are alot more to be shared, such as the dars n halaqahs going on in the various jami's here (maasyaAllah!), how the people here are very generous with du'a (pergi mana2 ada je org yg du'akan kte =D) ... oh yes, this coming Monday, there's a third orientation for the new S'porean students in Syria. the seniors are going to bring us on a tour to the maqams n more places of interests! weE~

till we meet again, biidznillah. Assalamu'alaikum :)

p.s. alf mabruuk tu ukht Salimah, ukht Noorisma and ukht Siti Khadijah yang bakal mendirikan rumahtangga pada bulan 9, 10 and 11 ni respectively. baarakallaahu fikunna wa fi azwaajikunna :)

"Go on a journey from self to Self, my friend...
Such a journey transforms the earth into a mine of gold"
-Rumi in Mathnawi-
.......
Just feel like listing down a few things I’ve done/experienced in Singapore/M’sia before beginning a new life in a different continent insyaAllah.

- been to KL for the 1st time last June. Such a busy city. Make me feel insecure. Don’t really like the atmosphere over there. Huu~ but perhaps I’ve yet to check out the interesting places such as those sis Sarah, sis Saqinah n Yam visited…:)
- tried sports-climbing (still don’t like the harness. Eeiii)
- tried dragon-boating (still remember how 3 sisters tried to adjust the pink life jacket around me. Haa. Thanks eh korang2)
- rode a rollercoaster (alar, the one @ Berjaya Times Square tuu..) 4 times. Suker~
- participated in MIQ. Ni lagi suker (7x~)

recent ones:
-NI Elections @Botanical Gardens. WoOh! Go new comm.!
-date with Sri @ Botanical Gardens (haa. Suker sgt kan tmpt tu. We forgot to buy our meals at Orchard, n ended up buying them at Gleneagles Hospital instead. Mepek2… but that’s always what happened when u mix Khadijah and Sri Nurayu together. Kan Sri? ;) dr mwti lg. We can’t look at each other’s faces when we are presenting smtg, coz that will result in bursts of laughter. Sungguh tak senonoh~
-Peer Talk. Went very successfully. Personally, I enjoyed the sharing session.
-participated in pre-departure camp. Loads of ‘ilm n skills gained, hamdan lillah.
Counseling skills, first aid techniques, understanding ourselves, n not forgetting cooking skills! What happened in the kitchen was both hilarious n nerve-wrecking. What with the presence of some seniors observing us n taking photos! We took around half an hour to decide on the recipes I guess. Am grouped with Sahibul Fadhilah (a close fren of mine from Alsagoff), Shahidah Watib (sweet sister of my super sweet senior, kak Hafizah!) n Farhana (my lovely junior from mwti). Farhana tak habis2: “betul tak kte potong sayur ni??” whereas sahibul n shahidah were busy discussing about “Kentang Belado”. Dah masukkan telur + the bawangS…n sebatang lada merah. N then we were wondering why the “things” in the pan were far from red. Rupenye belum masukkan cili paste daa! Heh. Gue pulak sebok dgn my special omelette. Konon tu nak try buat telur dadar berintikan mashed potatoes. Lepas tu atas tabur fried sausage slices. Haha. Kak Aisyah from MUIS went: “Khadijah ni mesti tengok ni kat TV tau…” haha. Actually, nope. I just had this vivid imagination about smooth, mashed potatoes evenly spread out on top of omelette….. mcm sedap gitu kan? N so I tried to make it into reality. At last, jadilah jugak. Sedap beb~ (;p)

-date with Huda @ Swensen’s. sodap kan wak? ;)
-Saff “R” Us. A new Mass Halaqah session organized by Saff on the first Friday of every month insyaAllah, starting on 3rd Aug 2007. 1st one on Understanding the Purpose of Life went well, hamdan lillah. Such a humble event :)
-bought sunglasses (kwang3x)

-grabbed a diploma! hamdan lillah :)
-Summer Training Camp @ Pulau Pangkor. On this, I will elaborate further…

Summer Training Camp was great! Met loads of wonderful sisters. Reached there ard 8:30am on Sat morning, had breakfast n straight away had to get ready for Jungle Trekking! The trekking took 3 hours and 15 mins, and it was an enjoyable experience for me. “jumpe” banyak nah pokok2 + dahan2+ daun2 berduri kat dalam hutan tu. Thanks to the sisters in front who cautioned me abt it, coz I might have hurt my hands in the countless attempts to stabilize myself on ground. Kene pandai2 elak, n bukak mata besar2, coz some of the needles were almost invisible. Kalau nak pegang buat tempat bertahan, sakit, kalau tak pegang, kene lah pandai2 cari tempat lain untuk bergantung. Made me realize that in life, no matter how difficult the situation might be, n when help does exist, but with a high price to pay…which path should u choose, n how u would be needing the support n reminders of ppl ard u…

We slept in the dormitories. Only sis Zakiah n me took the top bunk. Heh. kak zakiah was happy that finally she got bitten by pacats -_-“ n me was not happy when I discovered that on my left hand alone, I’ve 14 mosquito bites!!! Dahsyat uh nyamukS tu. At my left cheek ada 5 bites. Kak zakiah was constantly reminding me: “jangan garuk!”. Huu~ tahan jelah~

There were not much programmes really. Mostly talks by invited speakers on topics like knowing our different characteristics (to enable us to work better in a team), about mastering the 4 main components in us, namely: physical, intellectual, emotional n spiritual, a talk about the strive of our Palestinian brothers n sisters, n a Kuliah Subuh that I, erm, to be honest, didn’t manage to catch much coz was really sleepy. Hee. Burok~ but at least I attended it k. sanggup tak balik dorm tidur tau =P

Before the closing, there was a sharing on Karisma’s FIDAK 2015 (Fikrah Islam Dominan Alam Kampus) by the enthusiastic sis Maryam Jailani. MaasyaAllah! May it be achieved! :D a very structured plan with specific timelines n objectives. How they hope that the undergradues in campus will no longer feel shy/embarrassed to practise Islam, n instead feel proud to carry their duties as Muslims n the responsibilities assigned to them. E.g. spread salaam even to those you do not know, n the other person need not feel surprised or puzzled by it. coz FIDAK has been attained! Super coOL~
